Thieves steal Hartlebury festive shop’s Christmas decorations
A Worcestershire shop suffered a theft of approximately £40,000 in Christmas decorations.
The owner of Pinewood Christmas Tree Plantation in Hartlebury, Matt Palmer, reported a loss of nearly two-thirds of his inventory. With the store set to open on 18 November, Palmer is eager to replenish his stock swiftly.
He explained that burglars attempted to access a storage shed, first tampering with a lock that successfully resisted their efforts. Undeterred, the thieves went around to the back of the shed, where they peeled away its tin exterior, severed CCTV cables, and looted the contained merchandise.
Evidence of their intrusion was apparent, with large tyre tracks in a nearby field and discarded baubles and tinsel on the ground.
Palmer remarked on his wife’s distress over the incident, especially since she oversees the Christmas segment of their business. He shared, “She’s understandably upset. On top of her regular job, she now has the added task of procuring new decorations.”
He remains hopeful that his insurance will expedite the processing of his claim, enabling him to replace the stolen items in time for the store’s opening. He emphasized his wish to maintain the festive spirit of the store, stating, “Without the shop, our place would simply be a Christmas tree field. Having the store makes it vibrant and enhances the entire atmosphere.”
In light of the incident, security measures at Pinewood will be upgraded. Palmer urges anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity in the Hartlebury area that night to come forward with information.
