Ducati develops motocross bike for 2024 Italian MX Series

After a two-year design and development phase, Ducati Motor Holding has unveiled a motocross bike set to premiere in the 2024 Italian Motocross Championship.

Antonio Cairoli, who recently ended his association with KTM, is joining the ranks of this new motocross brand as their lead rider.

Claudio Domenicali, Ducati Motor Holding’s CEO, expressed in a press statement, “It’s a moment of pride as Ducati ventures into the Motocross realm. We aim to infuse our knack for crafting lightweight, high-performance bikes, fitted with top-notch components, that can truly captivate motorbike enthusiasts. We’ve always regarded the racetrack as an ideal testing ground for bikes destined for our fans and customers. Collaborating with a legend like Tony Cairoli aligns with this vision. His expertise, combined with the passion of our team in Borgo Panigale, will elevate Ducati’s off-road prowess to match its proven asphalt performance.”

Ducati envisions this as a long-term initiative, culminating in a comprehensive lineup of off-road motorcycles and engines.

Cairoli, a champion with nine titles to his name, including MXGP victories in 2014 and 2017, took a step back from full-time racing but still made an appearance in five Pro Motocross events in 2022, clinching a top-five finish at Thunder Valley.

Joining Ducati, Cairoli remarked, “It’s an immense pleasure to be a part of Ducati’s world-renowned Italian legacy and to embark on this thrilling all-Italian journey. Helping shape the motocross bike from Borgo Panigale is both a dream realized and a tremendous honor for me.”

Furthermore, Ducati has forged a partnership with Maddii Racing and roped in Alessandro Lupino, the eight-time Italian Champion, to assume the roles of a racing and test rider.
