Cardi B Shares Details About a ‘Freak Accident’ That Threatened Her Pregnancy

The rapper, currently expecting her third child, opened up about a frightening “freak accident” that nearly caused her to miscarry.

Cardi B recently spoke about the terrifying incident on X Spaces, explaining how a slip on the stairs led to a serious scare during her pregnancy. “I was going down the stairs and I slipped a little,” she shared on Thursday, according to PEOPLE. “I practically fell, but I was trying to catch myself by holding onto the railing. My foot still slipped, and I ended up falling hard.” After the fall, she recalled feeling a “weird jerk, like a pop,” and struggled to get back up.

The artist, who announced on August 1 that she’s expecting her third child with rapper Offset, just a day after filing for divorce, said she immediately felt pain near where she’s carrying the baby. Although such discomfort isn’t unusual during pregnancy, Cardi noticed something was wrong when she woke up feeling “paralyzed.”

“I couldn’t move my lower body at all,” she said. “Even moving my feet caused pain in the lower part of my stomach. I just couldn’t move.”

Cardi B was rushed to the hospital, where she discovered she had torn a ligament in her pelvis, right where the baby’s head is positioned.

Following the injury, the “Up” rapper endured severe pain. “I started dilating and was having contractions every two minutes for a full 24 hours,” she revealed. “They had to monitor me closely, and I was in so much pain that I couldn’t move for two days straight.”

Doctors advised her to stay in bed and undergo physical therapy to recover.

Cardi also addressed critics who previously questioned her need for morphine to manage the pain from her injuries. “You don’t even know what the f— is going on or what I’m going through,” she responded.

The rapper is already a mother to daughter Kulture Kiari, 6, and son Wave Set, 2, both of whom she shares with Offset, who also has three children from previous relationships. The couple married in 2017, with Cardi filing for divorce in September 2020, only for them to reconcile two months later. However, she filed for divorce again in July 2024.
