Whoopi Goldberg isn’t keen on the idea of resurrecting the long-extinct dodo bird, especially after hearing about scientists’ plans to bring back creatures like the dire wolf and woolly mammoths. The actress made her stance clear on The View, expressing concern and confusion over the scientific push to revive these species.

The discussion was sparked by news that scientists had successfully engineered genetic elements to bring the dire wolf back, which was recently reported by Colossal Biosciences. “Twelve thousand years after being wiped off the planet, the dire wolf is howling again,” Goldberg said as The View returned from a commercial break. She went on to share the company’s plans to potentially resurrect other extinct animals, including the woolly mammoth and the dodo bird, and voiced her strong disapproval. “Why? And the dodo bird. Why!?” she asked, clearly puzzled by the idea.

Despite her concerns about certain species, Goldberg expressed interest in the potential return of the Tasmanian tiger, saying, “I like that,” with a smile. She then turned to her cohosts, wondering if they were also hesitant about the resurrection of extinct animals, or if Jurassic Park had already made them question the consequences.

Ana Navarro, taking the conversation in a political direction, joked, “I wish they’d resurrect the extinct principled Republican in Congress.” Meanwhile, fellow panelist Sunny Hostin echoed Goldberg’s sentiments, expressing unease about the project. “I don’t like it. It’s giving Jurassic Park for me. That didn’t end well. The dinosaurs came back and ate the people,” Hostin said.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, however, praised the dire wolves’ beauty, but Hostin quickly reminded her of their potential danger, stating, “They can tear off your face,” and again stressing, “They can take your face off.”

Finally, an exasperated Goldberg moved the conversation to her own recent accolade, revealing that New York magazine had named her one of Broadway’s all-time great legends. The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
