Terror Con 2023 Event Report: Massachusetts Horror Convention Returns with Star-Studded Celebration

Even before the spooky month of October, Massachusetts has been reveling in horror-themed festivities. Hot on the heels of the Silver Scream Con in Danvers, Terror Con made its grand appearance at Marlborough’s Royal Plaza Trade Center from September 15-17.

The main attraction was none other than Robert Englund, famed for his role as Freddy Krueger. The event also became a mini-reunion for A Nightmare on Elm Street stars, including the likes of Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Mark Patton, Lisa Wilcox, and many more from various sequels.

Other notable guests featured Lance Henriksen from Aliens, Terminator 2’s Edward Furlong, pro wrestling icon Mick Foley, The Walking Dead cast members, and stars from Halloween, Twin Peaks, and Tales from the Crypt. The event even had a Fright Night reunion with the original cast in attendance.

Adding to the star-studded lineup were celebrities like Derek Mears, Cerina Vincent, Danny Lloyd, Ginger Lynn, Sean Patrick Flanery, Alaina Huffman, and voice actor Marty Grabstein, to name a few.

Having recently delved into the convention scene, Sandy Johnson, who portrayed Judith Myers in the classic Halloween, was all praises for Terror Con. She remarked, “Horror conventions are like the happiest family gatherings!”

The vendor section was vast and diverse, offering everything from handcrafted items and clothing to contemporary and retro collectibles. Throughout the three-day event, cosplayers showcased their creativity, with outfits ranging from iconic characters like Freddy Krueger to unique ones like Lady Dimitrescu on stilts.

However, there was a slight hiccup with the event’s panels. While attendees might overlook the slightly inconvenient locations or the odd combination of panel guests, the podcast host’s lack of preparation and excessive personal interjections marred the experience for some.

Nonetheless, the stars were all in good spirits. An amusing moment was when Eugene Clark from Land of the Dead discovered that his co-panelist Craig David Dowsett played a sinister version of a well-known children’s character. Dowsett later expressed, “I adore these conventions. Engaging with fans and discussing our work is truly special. Plus, the casual interactions are simply the best!”
