Meryl Streep Calls Kamala Harris ‘President’: “From My Mouth to God’s Ear”
During a star-studded livestream event titled “Unite for America” on September 19, actress Meryl Streep made headlines by inadvertently referring to Kamala Harris as the president. Sharing the screen with Harris and host Oprah Winfrey, Streep expressed her awe at the event, saying, “Hello, President Harris—oops!”
Though she looked momentarily embarrassed, Streep’s smile suggested she was pleased with the slip. Harris, unfazed, replied with a confident, “47 days,” hinting that Streep’s wish for a Harris presidency could soon come true.
“From my mouth to God’s ear,” Streep echoed.
Streep was on the livestream to pose a single question to Harris: “I think you’re going to win, I’m sure you’re going to win, but what happens when you win, and he doesn’t accept?” This was a reference to concerns over election results and the potential for contestation from former President Donald Trump, similar to the events that led to the January 6 insurrection attempt.
Harris responded, noting, “One of the things I’ve realized during this campaign is that many Americans who voted for Trump previously have now decided that January 6 was just a bridge too far.” She emphasized that the majority of Americans have “absolutely no tolerance” for election denialism.
Throughout the lengthy campaign event, Harris and Winfrey were joined by other notable figures, including Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Julia Roberts, and Bryan Cranston. Rock expressed his desire to bring his daughters to the White House to meet a Black woman president.
Harris stirred some controversy by revealing to Winfrey that she and her vice presidential pick, Tim Walz, are both gun owners. When Winfrey reacted with surprise, Harris stated, “If somebody breaks in my house, they’re getting shot,” before jokingly adding, “I probably shouldn’t have said that.”

The following day on The View, host Ana Navarro supported Harris’s stance on gun ownership, addressing the camera directly: “I have a gun, too. So, nobody better be coming to my house!”
Several celebrities have recently endorsed Vice President Harris in her presidential bid, including Linda Ronstadt, who stated, “This cat lady will be voting proudly in November for Kamala Harris,” and Taylor Swift, who declared, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris,” alongside various former Republican politicians and officials.
