Grant Ellis Named the New Bachelor Moments After His Bachelorette Exit

The 30-year-old day trader from Newark, NJ was just sent home in tonight’s episode of The Bachelorette.

There’s nothing quite like the shock of a new Bachelor announcement, is there, rose lovers?

Just moments after viewers watched Grant Ellis leave The Bachelorette heartbroken, ABC revealed that the 30-year-old day trader from Newark will be the star of season 29 of The Bachelor.

The announcement comes just a week after fans saw Grant on a romantic one-on-one date with Bachelorette Jenn Tran in New Zealand. During that episode, the former professional basketball player surprised the other contestants by confessing that he was falling in love with Jenn. “I see someone I could build a life with,” he shared with them.

Unfortunately, Jenn didn’t share the same feelings. During her final rose ceremony before the hometown dates, she sent home both Spencer, a 30-year-old “pet portrait entrepreneur,” and Grant. “I want a family. I want to be happy. I want a life. I want to be in love,” Grant said during his exit interview after failing to receive a rose. “I never expected this to happen tonight.”

This revelation also caught Bachelor Nation off guard. In all my years covering this franchise, I can’t recall a Bachelor being announced while his season of The Bachelorette was still airing. The closest comparison might be Nick Viall, who was named the new Bachelor in 2016 while still appearing on Bachelor in Paradise, though he didn’t have any serious romantic connections on the show at the time.

Throughout this season of The Bachelorette, Grant opened up about his childhood, including his experience growing up with a father who struggled with substance abuse. He also managed to steer clear of the drama between other contestants, particularly Sam M. and Devin, and enthusiastically tried Australian delicacies like Vegemite and kangaroo testicles during a group date in Melbourne.

According to his ABC bio, Grant is “a mama’s boy who loves poetry and reading.” He also enjoys bowling, karaoke, and salsa dancing. Grant will be the second Black lead of The Bachelor, with his season set to premiere in January 2025.
