Exclusive: Lois Discovers Superman’s Body in Heart-Wrenching Superman & Lois Final Season Trailer
Get ready for an emotional ride as Superman & Lois returns for its final season, and the stakes have never been higher.
Fans are already aware that Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) faces a tragic fate, as the series adapts the iconic “Death of Superman” comic arc from 1992-1993, leading to Clark’s death in his epic battle against Doomsday. Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive first look at the gut-wrenching moment when Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) and their teenage twin sons, Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Jonathan (Michael Bishop), discover Clark’s lifeless body following the devastating fight. Be prepared—this brief glimpse in the trailer will hit you hard.
Showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher reveal that while the story wasn’t initially intended to conclude the series, they had always planned to adapt the “Death of Superman” storyline in Season 4. “When Season 4 was announced as the final season, it allowed us to fully embrace Doomsday and create our own version of the story,” Helbing explains. “It all worked out nicely, though it’s bittersweet that it’s the last season.”
The result is a ten-episode arc filled with emotion and surprises, which the showrunners claim is their best season yet. “When you see the entire story, the ‘Death of Superman’ becomes something important and poignant,” says Fletcher. “It serves as a fitting farewell for our hero and his family, as well as the beloved characters that fans have grown to care about.”
Helbing emphasizes that such a storyline could only be executed after several seasons to do it justice. “The reason the comic storyline resonated so well is due to years of Superman lore, making it impactful,” he explains. “With 43 episodes behind us, viewers have truly come to love Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and their community. This depth adds emotional weight that wouldn’t be present in a standalone movie.”
However, killing Superman presents its own challenges—regardless of kryptonite or the genetically-altered Bizarro Superman becoming Doomsday. The showrunners embraced the creative challenge of writing themselves “into a corner” and exploring the question of “where do we go from here?”
“We found that concept thrilling as we brainstormed,” Fletcher adds. “Most of our ideas diverge from the comic, making this our unique interpretation that weaves in every character and theme from the show. We believe we’ve created a version that is impactful, emotional, and full of surprises. Each episode brings exciting twists that will thrill viewers while also delivering significant emotional moments.”
