Deion Sanders Reacts to Being Spoofed on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Achieving a parody on Saturday Night Live is a surefire sign of making waves nationally.
This season, Colorado football has done just that, capturing the attention of the wider pop culture sphere in a manner few college teams have managed in recent times. Their tumultuous season undoubtedly played a part: starting strong with a 3–0 record, facing subsequent defeats from top-tier teams, celebrating a nail-biting win over Arizona State, and then shockingly squandering a 29-point advantage in a game against Stanford.
Yet, at the heart of Colorado’s allure is their charismatic coach, Deion Sanders, hilariously impersonated by SNL stalwart Kenan Thompson in a recent Weekend Update segment from the show’s season opener on October 14.
When quizzed about the sketch on Tuesday, Sanders responded with enthusiasm.
“I’ve always admired Kenan and his comedic genius,” Sanders remarked. “Hosting Saturday Night Live was an unforgettable experience for me.”
Indeed, Sanders had taken center stage on SNL on February 18, 1995, accompanied by musical sensations Bon Jovi. This appearance came during the pinnacle of his dual-sport career, hot on the heels of his Super Bowl XXIX victory with the 49ers, a culmination to a season where he clinched the title of AP Defensive Player of the Year.
Now, with the spotlight back on Colorado, they are gearing up for their next game in Los Angeles, where they’ll challenge No. 23 UCLA this coming Saturday evening.
