Budweiser won’t cut off the tails of its famous Clydesdale horses
Following Anheuser-Busch’s decision to halt tail docking of Budweiser’s renowned Clydesdale horses, PETA celebrates by “popping open some cold ones.”
For years, Budweiser has showcased these Clydesdales, recognizable by their distinct white feathered legs, in multiple advertising campaigns, spanning from festive seasons to the Super Bowl. The process of tail docking, which often involves trimming the tail’s hair and sometimes even the removal of sections of the tailbone, has consistently faced criticism from animal activists.
In response, Anheuser-Busch confirmed that they ceased tail docking earlier this year, emphasizing the Clydesdales’ well-being as their utmost concern.
Recently, PETA, along with other animal advocacy organizations, urged the company in a letter to stop the tailbone amputations.
The American Veterinary Medical Association has pointed out that tail docking has become a cosmetic trend in certain breeds, especially for show purposes. The association recommends against surgeries that don’t serve a medical purpose. Notably, at least ten U.S. states have already outlawed tail docking in horses.
This tail docking issue is just another challenge for Budweiser, especially after losing its status as America’s top beer this past June, a downfall linked to the backlash over a promotional Bud Light can featured by transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney, on Instagram.
