Beast Games Contestants File Lawsuit Against MrBeast and Amazon, Alleging Sexual Harassment and Emotional Distress

Five anonymous contestants from the upcoming reality competition Beast Games have launched a lawsuit against Amazon, the production company Off One’s Base, and MrBeast’s company MRB2024. The suit alleges sexual harassment, emotional distress, and unpaid wages stemming from their time on the show, which features a $5 million cash prize.

Filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the lawsuit claims that the contestants faced “unreasonable, unsafe, and unlawful employment conditions.” It details how participants were allegedly denied privacy and access to the outside world, were “fed sporadically and sparsely,” and lacked sufficient access to hygiene products and medical care. Additionally, the suit asserts that the production team fostered “a hostile work environment for female contestants.”

The heavily redacted complaint explains that the plaintiffs chose to file under pseudonyms and limit public exposure in an effort to comply with the defendants’ extensive confidentiality provisions, which they argue are unenforceable. This decision was made to protect the privacy of those involved.

MrBeast’s representatives declined to comment, and Amazon has yet to respond to requests for a statement.

Robert N. Pafundi, the lead counsel for the plaintiffs, emphasized the seriousness of the allegations in a press release: “Participants entered into contracts and were promised compensation for their services. Under California law, their expectation of compensation, coupled with constant supervision from production staff, classifies them as employees entitled to protections. The extreme neglect, harassment, and inhumane conditions described are a clear dereliction of duty for which the defendants must be held accountable.”

Beast Games, hosted and executive produced by James “Jimmy” Donaldson (MrBeast), was marketed as “the biggest reality competition series ever” upon its announcement by Prime Video in March. The lawsuit highlights the lack of adequate medical staff and care on set, claiming that participants were pressured to engage in risky physical challenges that could lead to injury. It also references local news reports stating that contestants had to be hospitalized for dehydration.

An alleged employee handbook is mentioned in the suit, which reportedly encourages reckless behavior among contestants: “If talent wants to draw a dick on the white board in the video or do something stupid, let them… Really do everything you can to empower the boys when filming and help them make content. Help them be idiots.”

Reports from August indicated that “over a dozen” contestants claimed they received inadequate food and medical attention, with some suffering injuries during physical challenges.

The lawsuit is seeking class-action status for all affected Beast Games contestants, demanding compensation for unpaid and overtime wages, reimbursement for expenses, and punitive damages. A release date for Beast Games has not yet been announced.
