Anthony Davis was benched at the half of Lakers game vs. Nuggets because of his right foot injury

Anthony Davis has had a lot of difficulty staying healthy and has missed a lot of time due to injuries. However, this season he’s played in 25 of 28 games, showing that he is finally healthy and playing quite well. He is averaging 28.1 points per game for the Lakers while defending well on defense.

Unfortunately, Davis had to leave the court in the first half after his ankle twisted on a post-up attempt against Jokic. They announced he was out for the rest of the game with what they’re describing as an injury to his right foot.

Davis is experiencing some discomfort in his foot, but the injury isn’t serious according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. He will likely undergo an MRI for further evaluation.

The Los Angeles Lakers will struggle to win games without Davis because he’s been 10.6 points per 100 possessions better on average this season. While Thomas Bryant has shown promise as the backup to Davis, who plays more minutes than any other player on the team, asking him to play the minutes is unreasonable. LeBron James has played some minutes at center in the past in an effort to compensate when Davis went out, but that defensive alignment was largely ineffective last season when teams burned up 4 out of every 10 of its possessions against that lineup.

Ultimately, the Lakers will likely be as cautious as possible with Davis. Keeping him healthy is their only chance at meaningful contention. In that vein, the last two games Davis has missed have been half of a back-to-back. If that is the case, it is up to the rest of the roster to pick up the slack without him. Davis has been carrying this team for most of this season, but now it might be time for someone else to take a turn.
