Kathy Griffin Undergoes Hysterectomy Due to Precancerous Condition: “How Do I Not Have a Reality Show?”

Comedian Kathy Griffin announced on Monday that she recently underwent a hysterectomy due to a precancerous condition. In a candid Instagram post, she shared the news with her fans, writing, “Happy Monday! I had a hysterectomy on Friday, that’s right, they took out the uterus, the fallopian tubes & the ovaries. Pre-cancerous, blah blah blah.”

While she did not provide further details about her condition, Griffin teased that she would be sharing more in a future Patreon post, where she promised to reveal more about her “private ‘nurse’ (who possibly…got her scrubs online).”

Griffin, 64, continued, humorously recounting an interaction with her nurse: “I sent her home because she also thinks that ‘tariffs’ are ‘terrorists.’ So she kept saying stuff like, ‘I don’t like Trump anymore because the price of eggs is going up and now he’s adding terrorists!’”

In her trademark comedic style, she quipped, “Not to be an a–hole, but how do I NOT have a reality show to capture all of this???” She added, “I mean, you can’t write it. It’s too real.” Fans flocked to the post, offering their well wishes and sharing their own experiences with the procedure.

This marks another health challenge for the comedian. In August 2021, Griffin revealed that she had been diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer, despite never smoking. At the time, she tweeted, “I have cancer. I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”

She reassured her followers, adding, “The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less. It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine.” She also encouraged fans to “please stay up to date on your medical check-ups” as they can “save your life.”

Griffin later announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live in December that she had beaten cancer after living with a lung tumor for a decade.
