Krysten Ritter on a Potential Jessica Jones Revival: ‘It Would Be So Lovely’
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has already welcomed back characters like Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, with both set to star in the highly anticipated Daredevil: Born Again series premiering in March 2025. Naturally, this has sparked speculation about whether other beloved heroes from Netflix’s The Defenders lineup—like Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, or Finn Jones’ Iron Fist—might also make a return.
Though no official announcements or post-credit teasers hint at Jessica Jones’ revival just yet, Ritter recently expressed her enthusiasm for stepping back into the role.
“It’s a character that I adore and love so much, so you never know,” Ritter told Entertainment Tonight at a red carpet event for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. “I mean, it would be so lovely.”
Experience with Revivals
Ritter noted that revisiting a beloved role would not be unfamiliar territory for her. “I’ve been in a lot of projects that come back, so you never know,” she said, referencing her return to Breaking Bad via El Camino and her work on the Veronica Mars revival.
However, Ritter clarified she isn’t actively chasing a revival. “I’ve been open since it ended, but I’m also so thrilled to be doing Sonic and all the other projects I’m working on,” she added.
Jessica Jones’ Legacy
Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, Jessica Jones is a Marvel comics character who gained wider recognition through the Netflix series, now available on Disney+ and Hulu. Ritter portrayed the hard-drinking, super-strong private investigator with a complicated past. The series tackled heavy themes, including trauma and resilience, especially in its first season when Jones confronted the telepathic villain Kilgrave (David Tennant), who had abused his powers to control her in a chilling allegory for prolonged psychological abuse.
Subsequent seasons explored her family dynamics, including the unexpected return of her super-powered mother (Janet McTeer), and the transformation of her best friend, Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), into the vigilante Hellcat. Jessica also joined forces with Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in The Defenders to take on the mystical organization known as the Hand.
What’s Next for Ritter
While Jessica Jones’ return remains uncertain, Ritter’s career is thriving. She stars as Director Rockwell of the Guardian Units of Nations (G.U.N.) in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and recently headlined Orphan Black: Echoes, a revival series that builds on the original Orphan Black storyline (though Ritter wasn’t part of the original cast).
Whether or not Jessica Jones reemerges in the MCU, Ritter’s passion for the character and her ability to seamlessly step back into roles she loves make her a prime candidate for future Marvel projects. For now, fans can only hope that a return to the gritty streets of Hell’s Kitchen is on the horizon.
