Every version of the BMW M5 is a winner, and each holds a special place in enthusiasts’ hearts.

From its inception in 1987 to the present day, the BMW M5 has consistently proven itself as one of the finest sport sedans ever produced. Recently, the Carwow YouTube channel organized a thrilling showdown, pitting stock, well-maintained examples of every M5 generation against each other in a series of half-mile drag races on a closed airfield.

Due to space constraints, the races took place in pairs, arranged in chronological order from oldest to newest. As expected, the power and weight of the M5 have increased over the years, resulting in the later models emerging victorious. Nonetheless, one of the most captivating duels was the E39 against the E60, showcasing the delightful sounds of the naturally aspirated V-8 and V-10 engines.

However, the E60 versus F10 race deviated from expectations. The F10 suffered a driveshaft failure during the launch, rendering it undrivable, and the host had to substitute the E60 in the race against the modern F90 M5.
