Travis Kelce says NFL is ‘overdoing’ his connection with Taylor Swift
Travis Kelce feels that the NFL might be overly emphasizing his association with pop icon Taylor Swift.
Swift has been spotted at two of Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs games this season, though neither has confirmed a romantic link. While the attention has its perks – boosting Kelce’s jersey sales, increasing NFL viewership among the youth, and promoting Swift’s new film during games – Kelce believes it might be excessive.
On his podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, he commented on the league’s heightened attention, saying, “It’s fun seeing who’s in attendance; it adds to the game experience. But I do feel they’re overstepping a bit, especially concerning me. I believe they’re trying to make it entertaining.”
Broadcasters have started integrating Swift’s song lyrics into their game analysis, somewhat overshadowing the actual football content. After a recent Chiefs game, the NFL’s profile quirkily read: “NFL (Taylor’s Version).”
Jason Kelce pointed out that during a game against the Jets, cameras zoomed in on Swift’s luxury suite 17 times. To which Travis responded, “That’s excessive. Almost every single drive.”
Some skeptics question the authenticity of the relationship between a popular singer promoting her projects and a top NFL player, especially given the league’s commercial tendencies. Reacting to the speculation, the NFL issued a statement, “We often update our content based on current events and cultural happenings. The Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce news is a blend of sport and entertainment that’s been largely positive for the sport.”
The league has since changed its bio to “turning up in Tottenham”, alluding to an upcoming game in London between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills.
