Timo Werner: “RB Leipzig always want to achieve more”
“Timo Werner has set his sights on more titles, starting with the upcoming Supercup clash against Bayern Munich.
Back in June, Werner played a pivotal role in Leipzig’s DFB Cup triumph, netting five times in the journey that culminated in a 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. While contributors to that success, Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai, have moved on to Chelsea and Liverpool, Werner eagerly anticipates playing alongside new teammates like Benjamin Sesko, Lois Openda, and Xavi Simons.
Wondering if they can lead Leipzig to Supercup victory? Bundesliga.com caught up with the German forward to dive deeper.
Reflecting on Leipzig’s last season, Werner shared:
Werner: “Though we had potential to achieve more, our early performance could have been better to drive our momentum. A few slip-ups during the Rückrunde cost us dearly in the title chase.”
On his ambitions for the upcoming season:
Werner: “There’s always room for improvement, both in overall play and goal tally. Last season was unique for me due to my first significant injury. But I’m fit now, and with a proper preseason this time around, I’m aiming higher.”
Discussing his scoring rate:
Werner: “Comparing to my earlier stint at Leipzig, the dynamic has evolved. Despite my familiarity with Leipzig, adapting to a nearly revamped squad posed challenges. Though it was a decent year, I feel I can always push the envelope further.”
Regarding his enhancement strategies:
Werner: “I prioritized entering this season in peak physical and mental shape. Additionally, I’ve been pondering over refining my finishing, finding optimal positions, and maximizing scoring opportunities. Such reflections shape my preseason preparations.”

Sharing his most cherished Bundesliga memory:
Werner: “Witnessing Stuttgart, my childhood club, clinch the Bundesliga title in 2007 remains unmatched. I was around 10, and admiring players like Mario [Gomez], who were at their prime, was inspiring. I recall watching the deciding game with my academy mates at a tournament. The close contest between Schalke and Stuttgart made that victory even sweeter!”
