The Bachelorette Host Jesse Palmer on Jenn’s Hometown Dates: ‘Every Rose Ceremony Gets Tougher’
The host reflects on Jeremy’s elimination and discusses why love is both a sprint and a marathon.
Each week during The Bachelorette, host Jesse Palmer provides insights into Jenn’s “journey” to find “love.” Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email on Jeremy and Jenn’s grocery store date, the importance of approval from a significant other’s pet, and more.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: In Houston, Devin introduced Jenn to another “woman” in his life: his dog, Charlie. From your professional perspective, if a person’s significant other doesn’t get along with their pet or vice versa, is that an automatic dealbreaker?
JESSE PALMER: It’s absolutely a dealbreaker, and if there’s no connection, the date should end immediately. The only exception to this rule might be if the pet happens to be a King cobra snake.
We’ve heard on this show that “love is like a leap of faith,” but now it’s time for you to answer a question Devin asked Jenn: “Do you think love is like a sprint or a marathon?” And why?
I believe it’s both! Love in its early stages often starts off fast and intense, much like a sprint. However, sprinters can run out of steam, just as relationships that burn too hot can fizzle out. Most enduring relationships are more like marathons—steady, patient, and resilient through all the ups and downs.
Jeremy took Jenn on a unique shopping trip… to Stew Leonard’s. What’s the most low-key place you’ve ever taken a date?
While we were filming, [my wife] Emely and I drove past a goat farm and spontaneously decided to stop and visit. We ended up feeding and petting the goats, who even nibbled on our clothes. It was an unexpectedly fun and peaceful experience.
Jenn approached every date hoping to hear more about how each guy was truly feeling, and she got that validation. What do you think it is about spending time with family that helped the guys open up more about their emotions?
I think when the guys receive validation from their family and friends, it helps them feel more secure and comfortable expressing their own feelings to Jenn.
The men looked visibly upset when Jeremy didn’t receive a rose. How would you describe the mood in the room when you came in and asked him to say his goodbyes?
Every rose ceremony becomes more challenging for Jenn, and for the men as well. It’s a unique moment, where the guys are thrilled to continue their journey with Jenn, but they’re also saddened to see a friend leave.
