Secret Predator Movie Set to Release Before ‘Badlands,’ Studio Boss Reveals
A surprise Predator movie is on the horizon, set to debut next year ahead of the highly anticipated Predator: Badlands, according to 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell.
Dan Trachtenberg, the director behind the hit 2022 film Prey, is once again bringing extraterrestrial terror to Earth. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell revealed that Trachtenberg will deliver a second Predator film before the theatrical release of Predator: Badlands in 2025.
“After Prey became a success, Dan came back and said he didn’t want to do Prey 2,” Asbell explained. “We asked him what he wanted to do, and he pitched a bunch of wild ideas that were really cool. We’ve actually completed two of them.” Both films are set for release next year, Asbell confirmed.
Although Asbell remained tight-lipped about the details of the second, currently untitled, Predator film, he did confirm that Predator: Badlands, starring Elle Fanning, will hit theaters on November 7, 2025. He described Badlands as “absolutely bonkers” and hinted that it will defy expectations. “It’s not what everybody thinks it is. It’s so nuts, but in Dan, we trust,” Asbell added.
As for the secret Predator movie arriving before Badlands, Asbell reiterated that he “can’t say anything about it yet,” fueling further speculation.
Predator: Badlands, directed and co-written by Trachtenberg, is said to be a standalone story, rather than a direct sequel within the Predator franchise. Further plot details remain under wraps.
When asked about the possibility of another Alien vs. Predator film, Asbell hinted at the potential for future crossovers but clarified that any new installment would be “organically created” through the evolution of both franchises. “It wouldn’t be in the way you think,” he teased, adding that such a project would only come to fruition if driven by compelling characters from both universes.

The original Predator movie, released in 1987, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a mercenary leading a rescue mission in Central America, only to be hunted by a deadly alien. Directed by John McTiernan, the film also featured Carl Weathers, Kevin Peter Hall, Elpidia Carrillo, and Jesse Ventura, and has since become a sci-fi action classic.
