Sebastian Stan’s Donald Trump Stumbles in New Clip from The Apprentice

In a new preview for the upcoming film The Apprentice, Sebastian Stan showcases his striking transformation into a younger Donald Trump. The clip offers a glimpse of Stan’s portrayal of the former president, alongside Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn, Trump’s early career lawyer.

The scene starts with Cohn (Strong) on the phone with a reporter while he and Trump (Stan) are in the backseat of a car cruising through Manhattan. Cohn, frustrated by the media attention, hands the phone to Trump for an exclusive interview.

Reporter Judy inquires about Trump’s next steps following a lawsuit, though she doesn’t specify which case. Trump, in his characteristic rambling style, outlines his ambitious plans for The Commodore, promising to turn it into the finest building in the world. Despite Cohn’s attempts to guide him, Trump’s responses are scattered and over-the-top.

When Judy asks about Trump’s drive and ambition, he responds with a mix of confidence and humility: “I’ve got flair and I’m smart. I think that’s going to make me successful. But, I also want to stay humble.”

Cohn eventually takes the phone back and suggests finishing the interview in person, with a photographer in tow. As Trump processes the awkward exchange, Cohn offers a supportive but blunt reminder: “You’re alive. You’ve got a ways to go, but you’re learning.”

The film, directed by Ali Abbasi, explores Trump’s early days in 1970s New York, highlighting his partnership with Cohn as they navigate the business world. The cast also features Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump and Martin Donovan as Fred Trump.

Despite mixed reviews from Cannes, Abbasi is optimistic about the film’s prospects, especially with the upcoming 2024 presidential election potentially boosting interest. Stan expressed that the film offers valuable insights, while Abbasi downplayed the potential for legal action from Trump’s camp, pointing out the former president’s low success rate with lawsuits.

The Apprentice hits theaters nationwide on October 11. Watch the new clip of Stan as Trump above.
