Sara Haines Reveals Why She’s Comfortable Being Naked Around Her Kids: ‘There Are No Private Doors’
Sara Haines is redefining privacy in her home.
The The View cohost opened up on Tuesday’s live episode about her approach to being naked around her children, revealing that she has no issues with them seeing her without clothes. During a discussion on the show about when parents should feel uncomfortable being naked in front of their kids, Haines shared her perspective on privacy in her household.
While moderator Whoopi Goldberg suggested that children should be taught to knock before entering rooms, especially bathrooms, Haines responded candidly, “My kids do not knock. We talk about privacy, but we have that conversation while I’m sitting on the toilet and they’re standing there with me.”
After some playful comments from her cohosts, Haines clarified her stance: “I don’t run around nude; I’m in my bathroom doing my lotions and things.” She then explained that she and her husband, Max Shifrin, have been intentional in teaching their three kids—aged 5 to 9—to be comfortable with their bodies.

“I don’t want my kids to feel like they need to cover up, especially as young kids. I breastfed. My kids didn’t sexualize me; society did. They used to eat from my breasts,” she said. “They still ask questions; they walk in, but they don’t stare. They’ll talk about fighting someone, and I’m like, ‘I’ll be out in a minute.’ I don’t want them to feel ashamed of their bodies. There will probably be a time when it feels weird, but for now, there are no private doors.”
Haines’ approach wasn’t fully embraced by all her cohosts. Alyssa Farah Griffin shared a differing view, suggesting that as children approach puberty, parents should be more cautious about being seen naked. “When they’re inching toward puberty, I think you should actually go out of your way to not make them see you naked,” she said, adding that it can be “traumatic to children.”
Goldberg also chimed in with a reminder to always knock before entering rooms, emphasizing the importance of respecting each other’s boundaries for the sake of everyone’s peace.
Legal expert Sunny Hostin shared her own experience, saying, “I’ve never seen my parents naked, and my children have never seen me or my husband naked.”
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
