Runner Dies After Collapsing at Disneyland Half Marathon Finish Line

Caleb Graves, a 33-year-old runner and social media vlogger, tragically passed away shortly after completing the 2024 Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon in Anaheim, California.

Graves collapsed shortly after crossing the finish line around 7 a.m. on Sunday. Despite immediate medical assistance from Anaheim Fire & Rescue teams at the race’s conclusion, he was transported to Anaheim Global Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead approximately an hour later, Entertainment Weekly has learned.

Sgt. Matt Sutter from the Anaheim Police Department reported that a marathon worker noticed Graves clutching his chest and going into cardiac arrest just after finishing the race.

Disneyland Resort spokesperson Jessica Good expressed condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss, and our hearts are with Caleb’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.” Local authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding Graves’ death.

Earlier in the week, Graves had posted a TikTok video where he mentioned passing out from heat exhaustion after walking his dog. “I really hope I get through the race tomorrow morning,” he said in the video.

The Weather Channel reported temperatures exceeding 100 degrees during the marathon event, reaching 110 degrees on Friday and 107 degrees on Sunday. It remains unclear if heat played a role in Graves’ death, with the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department conducting an investigation.

Graves, a litigation associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, was also a well-known figure in the Disney vlogging community, with nearly 18,000 TikTok followers who enjoyed his Disneyland content.

The Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend is part of Disney’s runDisney program, which includes various marathon events held at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
