In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly ahead of The Last of Us season 2, Pedro Pascal took a trip down memory lane to his appearance on the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special. The actor, known for The Mandalorian and his upcoming role in Fantastic Four, revealed his reaction to a blunder during the “Domingo: Vow Renewal” sketch with Sabrina Carpenter, Marcello Hernández, and Bad Bunny. “My nightmare of karaoke,” Pascal says, recalling how he missed his cues multiple times in a row. “I was the first record scratch of the night.”

During the sketch, Pascal played Ronaldo, one of the brothers of Hernández’s beloved character Domingo. In the parody, Kelsey (Chloe Fineman) and her husband Matt (Andrew Dismukes) celebrate their vow renewal, but Pascal’s character is a little offbeat when he steps in alongside Carpenter to continue the “Espresso”-themed song.

“I remember thinking, ‘F—! I f—ed it up!'” Pascal admits, clearly still feeling the sting of the mistake. “I was really, really upset with myself for missing the cues. I think there was some cognitive and auditory failure on my part. I was so nervous, I really couldn’t hear what was going on or when I was supposed to come in.” He adds that no matter how comedic or bad the singing is intended to be, he’s always terrified of having to sing in public.

The sketch was a follow-up to a similar one from October 2024, which debuted during an episode hosted by Ariana Grande. In that bit, Kelsey and Matt’s vow renewal celebration takes a hilarious turn when the bridesmaids perform a parody song to the tune of Carpenter’s “Espresso,” revealing Kelsey’s affair with Domingo during her bachelorette getaway.

The recurring “Domingo” sketches became fan favorites, with another sequel titled “Babymoon,” featuring Charli XCX, and a “Vow Renewal” follow-up featuring Bad Bunny as Domingo’s “hot brother” Santiago. Hernández’s character even made a surprise appearance during one of Carpenter’s Los Angeles concerts.

Despite the missteps, Pascal still calls SNL his “favorite place to be,” and recalls how he recovered from the mishap. He also fondly remembers working with Carpenter, saying, “She was so game,” just before they hit the stage. “She was like, ‘Okay! So I got a note last minute.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah,'” he recalls. “She says, ‘I’m going to be grinding on you hard.’ And I was like, ‘You do whatever you want.’ Then before I knew it, we were on stage. It’s kind of an out-of-body experience that I can barely recall outside of my f— up.”

With The Last of Us returning for season 2 on April 13, fans are wondering if Pascal might be back for another SNL hosting gig soon. SNL continues this Saturday with host Mikey Madison at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC.
