Ozzy Osbourne Once Asked To Join Slipknot

In the realms of rock and metal, unforeseen encounters between legendary musicians can spark fascinating “what if” musings. Notably, Slipknot’s lead singer, Corey Taylor, recently recounted a surprising meeting with rock luminary, Ozzy Osbourne, a rendezvous that had the potential to reshape their respective career trajectories.

Speaking with Classic Rock magazine, Taylor took a trip down memory lane to Ozzfest ’99. As he sat amidst the Osbourne clan, he felt a palpable sense of being amidst rock aristocracy. “I was there, chilling with Jack, Kelly, and Sharon,” said Corey. “Out of the blue, Ozzy rushes over, asking Sharon to help with his earrings. And she’s like, ‘Ozzy, meet Corey from Slipknot, the lead singer.’

Ozzy’s response to Taylor? “You guys are the band with the nine members? I want in as the tenth!”

Despite Slipknot’s meteoric fame back then, the significance of Ozzy’s remark wasn’t lost on Taylor. Reacting as most would in such an unexpected scenario, he quipped, “Man, you’re Ozzy! Name your terms!” For Taylor, the moment equated to “rubbing shoulders with Superman.”

The whimsical idea that Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, once contemplated being the tenth cog in the Slipknot machine is a delightful anecdote and surely one of the highlights in Taylor’s storied career. While this collaboration never materialized, the sheer possibility of such a partnership or short-term union is thrilling to ponder.

In the same breath, Taylor shed light on a lesser-known tidbit concerning Slipknot’s participation in Ozzfest ’99. “We bagged a spot at Ozzfest [in 1999] because we were Jack’s top band pick,” Corey revealed. “Thanks to that, Sharon cut us some slack. We may have been wild, but in her eyes, ‘Oh, it’s just Slipknot being Slipknot.'”
