NFL: Green Bay Packers Head Coach Puts Starter On Cut List

Nevertheless, some familiar faces will remain, one of them being Pat O’Donnell, who delivered an impressive performance as the team’s punter in 2022. Despite his past success, O’Donnell might find securing a spot on the 53-man roster for the upcoming season challenging.
Rob Demovsky, during a recent Packers practice, pointed out a potential contender for the punting position:
Daniel Whelan demonstrated impressive punting skills during the practice session. His performance on 12 punts averaged 52.0 yards with 4.56 seconds of hang time, regardless of wind direction. If the Packers find themselves in need due to injury or roster changes, Whelan’s abilities could come in handy.
When asked about Whelan’s standout performance, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that Whelan could pose a challenge to incumbent starter, Pat O’Donnell.
LaFleur praised Whelan, noting, “He’s done a heck of a job since we’ve gotten him and you know, he definitely has a big-time leg and it’s great. We always encourage competition at every position as it pushes us to be better.”
