Motörhead icon Lemmy’s ashes scattered in mud at Wacken Festival

The iconic Motörhead frontman, Lemmy, continues to hold a presence at Germany’s Wacken Open Air festival, with more of his ashes recently scattered across the festival grounds. The legendary British metal band frequented the Wacken stage throughout their long-standing career, making the festival a fitting place to honor Lemmy’s memory.

Lemmy, whose real name was Ian Kilmister, passed away in December 2015 at the age of 70, just two days after announcing his prostate cancer diagnosis.

Thomas Jensen, festival co-organizer, expressed deep honor at Lemmy’s return to Wacken, promising to create a memorial place for the late musician. He stressed the special bond between Motörhead and Wacken Open Air, noting Lemmy’s symbolic journey end at the festival would hold a unique meaning forever.

Motörhead’s manager, Todd Singerman, emphasized that Wacken was one of Lemmy’s favorite homes and expressed happiness for him to have a permanent place there. Singerman also mentioned plans to scatter Lemmy’s ashes globally, allowing fans worldwide to honor and celebrate his enduring legacy.

Previously, some of Lemmy’s ashes were utilized for tattoos for Motörhead’s tour manager and production assistant. Before his passing, Lemmy also requested his ashes to be put into bullets and sent to his closest friends.

Earlier this year, Motörhead’s rare 1998 cover of Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ became available on all major streaming platforms for the first time.

This year in January, the band’s drummer Mikkey Dee made it clear that Motörhead would “never, ever, ever tour” again under the Motörhead name, respecting the legacy of the band’s original line-up. However, Dee did indicate they might perform occasional shows in the future.
