Marvel’s antiheroes are gearing up for a showdown in the newly released extended trailer for Thunderbolts. The footage offers a deeper look into how characters like Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ava Starr/Ghost, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, and Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster come together—while also grappling with their dark pasts.

In this latest installment, it seems someone wants to eliminate these characters, prompting Yelena—still mourning her sister Natasha Romanoff—to speculate on their precarious positions. “Everyone here has done bad things: shadow ops, robbing government labs, contract kills,” she asserts. “So someone wants us gone.”

As the crew navigates their complicated histories, they are drawn to a secret facility, each believing the others pose a threat. Their first interaction? A chaotic fight among themselves.

However, the situation shifts dramatically when they discover they are not alone. A mysterious man named Bob (played by Lewis Pullman, rumored to be the comic book character Sentry) joins the fray, changing the dynamic entirely.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, portraying Valentina Allegra de Fontaine—a darker counterpart to Nick Fury—adds, “We’re raised to believe there are good guys and bad guys. But you eventually realize there are bad guys, and then there are worse guys.”

The trailer also includes lighter moments, such as Bucky struggling with his vibranium arm in the dishwasher, Yelena reuniting with Alexei in an awkward father-daughter moment post-Black Widow, and the comedic chaos that ensues when John Walker shares a vehicle with the Red Guardian while being pursued by the Winter Soldier.

Reflecting on the Yelena-Alexei dynamic, Pugh mentioned at Comic-Con, “David and I made the most of our time in the first movie, and knowing we were returning for a sequel, we couldn’t wait to explore where these characters are now in their lives.”

Thunderbolts, directed by Jake Schreier, is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. Check out the trailer above!
