Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, and The West Wing Cast Reunite for 25th Anniversary at the 2024 Emmys
Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, and other stars from The West Wing reunited at the 2024 Emmys to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary. Joining Sheen were Richard Schiff, Dulé Hill, and Janel Moloney, honoring the Emmy-winning show’s milestone.
The reunion took place on the Peacock Theater stage in downtown Los Angeles, where the group presented the award for Best Drama Series, which went to Shōgun.
Sheen reflected on his role as President Jed Bartlet, saying, “From 1999 to 2006, I had the honor of portraying the President of the United States on an extraordinary series created by Aaron Sorkin and produced by John Wells.” Dulé Hill added, “The name of that series was The West Wing. We all had the honor of serving in your administration,” addressing Sheen.
Allison Janney reminisced, “It’s hard to believe that 25 years ago, Aaron and the writers had to use their imaginations to create compelling storylines for The West Wing.” Richard Schiff noted the contrast with today’s media landscape, where “storylines can be plucked right off the news, stories that would have seemed farfetched, if not utterly ridiculous, 25 years ago.”
Janel Moloney highlighted the ongoing relevance of political engagement, stating, “Our political landscape has shifted dramatically, but two things remain unchanged: the importance of voter registration and participation.” She then handed over to Sheen, who concluded with, “…and the quality of drama series on television.”
The West Wing cast has had numerous reunions since the show concluded in 2006, both formal and informal. Sheen, along with Janney, Hill, Schiff, Moloney, and series creator Aaron Sorkin, supported the 2023 SAG-AFTRA/WGA strike, showing their continued commitment to both the craft and the causes they believe in.
