Lyon get first points of Ligue 1 season as unfashionable teams win
PARIS, Aug 27 (Reuters) – Sunday’s Ligue 1 Highlights
Underdogs Lorient, Metz, and Stade de Reims all celebrated victories in Ligue 1 on Sunday. In contrast, Olympique Lyonnais, now led by former France manager Laurent Blanc, secured their first point this season with a goalless draw against Nice.
Although the match against Nice lacked excitement, Lyon would be relieved to evade a third consecutive defeat.
Lorient showcased their prowess, defeating Lille 4-1, marking their initial win this season. Lorient’s rapid-fire goals from Laurent Abergel and Julien Ponceau set the momentum. Although Lille’s Jonathan David managed to score, Lorient’s Romain Faivre and Vincent Le Goff sealed their dominant win.
Reims, uplifted by their new signee Teddy Teuma’s two exceptional goals, defeated Montpellier 3-1 on their turf. This win catapults Reims to third place in the league standings, trailing leaders Monaco and Olympique de Marseille by just a point.
Racing Strasbourg, under the leadership of Patrick Vieira, clinched a 2-0 win against Toulouse. Emanuel Emegha initiated the scoreline, and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde rounded it off, bringing their point total to six.
Metz, newcomers to the league, managed a narrow 1-0 victory against Clermont Foot, thanks to Georges Mikautadze. This defeat lands Clermont at the bottom of the table, having lost all of their season’s games.
The day also saw another promoted team, Le Havre, drawing 2-2 against Stade Rennais. Despite being two goals down and reduced to 10 players, Le Havre’s Nabil Alioui showcased resilience, scoring both goals to even the scales.
