Liam Gallagher Calls SNL Oasis Skit ‘Excruciating’: ‘Are They Meant to Be Comedians?’

Liam Gallagher didn’t hold back when asked about a recent Saturday Night Live sketch that poked fun at him and his brother, Noel. The Oasis frontman took to Twitter to express his less-than-enthusiastic reaction to the skit, where SNL cast members James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman portrayed the famously feuding Gallagher brothers.

When a fan asked for his opinion on the impressions, Liam responded bluntly: “Excruciating.” He added another jab, questioning, “Are they meant to be comedians?”

The SNL sketch in question, part of the Weekend Update segment, played off the possibility of an Oasis reunion tour—a recurring topic in the Gallagher brothers’ lore, though most fans know it’s a long shot. Johnson and Sherman spoofed the siblings’ tumultuous relationship, complete with over-the-top accents and a focus on trivial topics like their favorite cartoons and Sex and the City characters.

Despite the effort put in by the comedians, the bit didn’t seem to resonate with the audience—or with Liam. But as fans know, it’s rare for Gallagher to find much amusement in such portrayals. Regardless, Johnson and Sherman committed fully to their impressions, which is often the name of the game in sketch comedy.

Interestingly, the real Gallaghers haven’t graced the SNL stage since 1997, when they appeared during an episode hosted by Friends star Matthew Perry. When asked on Twitter if he remembered that appearance or if he got along with Perry, Liam was characteristically dismissive, saying, “I actually don’t remember being on it.”

As for a real-life Oasis reunion, it seems that remains as elusive as ever.
