Krejci retires from NHL after 16 seasons with Bruins

David Krejci, a prominent name in Boston Bruins history and their ninth-highest scorer, announced his retirement on Monday after dedicating 16 seasons to the NHL, all with the Bruins.

His illustrious career featured three Stanley Cup Final appearances (2011, 2013, 2019), clinching the championship in 2011 against the Vancouver Canucks.

“I’m retiring after 15 remarkable NHL seasons,” Krejci shared. He expressed his gratitude to the Bruins’ leadership and the entire organization for their unwavering support and the opportunity to be a part of such a legendary team.

The 37-year-old center, often viewed as a counterpart to Patrice Bergeron, amassed 786 points throughout his career, spanning over 1,032 games, and an additional 128 points in 160 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Bergeron, another Bruins stalwart, retired on July 25 after 19 seasons.

Reflecting on his journey, Krejci said, “Being drafted in 2004, I never envisioned the incredible journey ahead, leading to three Stanley Cup Finals and achieving the ultimate dream in 2011.”

After a season in Czech Republic’s premier league in 2021-22, Krejci made his NHL comeback, securing 56 points in 70 games for the Bruins.

Krejci boasts an impressive record, ranking high in several of the Bruins’ statistical categories. He’s been instrumental in playoffs, leading in points during two seasons. His playoff contribution ties him with Bergeron and Brad Marchand in Bruins history, just behind Ray Bourque.

Milan Lucic, Krejci’s longtime teammate, praised him, saying, “He had a knack for elevating his game when it mattered the most.”

Throughout his NHL journey, Krejci reached a personal best of 23 goals twice and a high of 73 points on two occasions.

Though retiring from the NHL, Krejci may still represent the Czech Republic in the 2024 IIHF World Championship, having done so previously in various tournaments.

Krejci concluded with a heartfelt message to his teammates, “We start as teammates but end as friends. The bonds formed over the years are invaluable. Thanks to all the coaches who’ve guided me; I’ve had the privilege of learning from the best.”
