Kelly Ripa Once Tried to Communicate with Wild Dolphins by Jumping Off a Boat
Kelly Ripa recently shared a humorous and memorable experience from a trip to Mexico, where she attempted to bridge the communication gap between humans and dolphins.
On Tuesday’s pre-recorded episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa recounted her adventurous attempt to connect with wild dolphins during a sunset boat trip celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday. “We rented a boat for cocktails, and suddenly, we were surrounded by wild dolphins,” Ripa, 53, explained to her audience.
The story took a comedic turn as Ripa described her enthusiasm for interacting with the marine mammals. “After filming a segment in Miami where I swam with dolphins and communicated with them, I jumped into the water, thinking I could call them over,” she said. “I was like, ‘I know how to talk to the dolphins!’”
Her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, chuckled as Ripa continued. “Our friend Brian was on the bow of the boat, yelling at me, ‘Kel, get back in the boat! Those are wild dolphins, not trained ones!’” Ripa recalled. Despite her friend’s warnings, she was convinced that her prior dolphin encounters had given her special communication skills.

This entertaining revelation follows a previous wildlife-related anecdote shared by Consuelos. In May, he discussed a beach encounter where a flock of plover birds dive-bombed the family, leading to an amusing exchange with a bystander. “He said, ‘You need to leave those birds alone!’” Consuelos remembered. Ripa quickly added, “And Mark replied, ‘Well, they need to leave us alone!’”
