Kelly Ripa Complains After Receiving Clothes That ‘Smelled Like Marijuana’ from High-End Store

“I called right away and said, ‘Why do my items smell like marijuana?'” Kelly Ripa humorously recounted on “Live With Kelly and Mark.”

Kelly Ripa had a luxury department store scrambling after they allegedly sent her a box of clothing that reeked of marijuana.

During a pre-recorded segment of Thursday’s episode of Live, Ripa shared the amusing story, using it as a reminder to always wash new clothing before wearing it.

“This happened last Christmas when there was a rare sale at a high-end department store,” Ripa began. “I couldn’t believe it when I got the email alert — the prices were unbelievable. So, I logged on and bought a bunch of stuff. But when the package arrived, it all smelled like marijuana. The scent just wafted out of the box. It was so strong, I couldn’t believe it.”

She described the situation as “a conundrum,” explaining that some of the items were intended as holiday gifts. “What do I do? Do I give these pot-scented gifts? Do I return them?” she asked, drawing laughter from the audience.

Her husband and cohost, Mark Consuelos, quickly chimed in with a joke: “If you return it, they might think you’re the one who’s been smoking pot.”

Not one to let things slide, Ripa immediately contacted the store to report the issue.

“I called right away and asked, ‘Why do my items smell like marijuana?'” she said.

According to Ripa, the store initially suggested that the odor might have come from the messenger who delivered the package.

But Ripa wasn’t buying it. “When I opened the shipping box, there was no smell. It wasn’t until I opened the actual box from the store that the scent hit me. So, it’s coming from inside the house. The smell is coming from inside the house,” she cleverly concluded.

Ultimately, Ripa decided to keep a few purses from the order but returned everything else, including coats she had purchased for her kids, to avoid any misunderstanding about their origins.

Despite being “very upsetting,” Ripa kept her sense of humor, adding a note to the gifts she did keep: “Sorry that this smells like pot.”

Surprisingly, this wasn’t Ripa’s first encounter with the smell of marijuana. In June 2023, she expressed her frustration about New York City’s Upper East Side being blanketed in the scent of weed — even early in the morning.
