Jennie Garth Regrets Joining the CW’s 90210 Reboot: “I Didn’t Know How to Say No”
Jennie Garth has expressed regret about reprising her role as Kelly Taylor in the 2008 CW reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210.
At the 90s Con 2024 event this weekend, Garth reflected on her decision to join the reboot, revealing her reservations about the project. “I wish I hadn’t done it,” Garth confessed during a panel discussion, as reported by PEOPLE.
Seated alongside her former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars Brian Austin Green, Gabrielle Carteris, and Ian Ziering—who did not return for the reboot—Garth explained, “No offense to them. The producer was a friend of a friend, and I remember he came over to my living room and pitched it as a chance of a lifetime.” She admitted, “He asked me to do it, and I didn’t know how to say no at the time. But the people were very nice, and all the best to them.”
Garth wasn’t the only original cast member to return; Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty also reprised their roles in the series, which featured Shenae Grimes-Beech, AnnaLynne McCord, and other new faces as a group of affluent students at a Beverly Hills high school.
Gabrielle Carteris expressed her surprise at the reboot, stating, “I never wanted to do it. I was so shocked they were bringing back the show. I thought, ‘Is it like they long so much that you’re just going to keep reinventing it?'”
Brian Austin Green added, “No offense at all. To me, we did 10 years of that show, and it was like, ‘Okay, done.'”
The cast eventually reunited for a more self-referential project in 2019 with Fox’s BH90210. This six-episode series featured the original cast playing fictionalized versions of themselves as they attempted to revive their iconic ’90s show.
