Jane’s Addiction Show Cuts Short After Perry Farrell Punches Dave Navarro

A Jane’s Addiction concert in Boston took an unexpected turn on Friday when frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro became involved in a heated altercation on stage.

Fan-captured video from the performance shows Farrell approaching Navarro during the song “Ocean Size,” first shoving him with his shoulder. Farrell then gets up close to Navarro, shouting at him, while Navarro tries to fend him off with his forearm. The confrontation escalates when Farrell throws a punch at Navarro’s chest, prompting intervention from crew members who quickly step in to separate the two. Soon after, more crew and bassist Eric Avery restrain Farrell while Navarro walks offstage.

The band’s setlist typically includes three to four more songs following “Ocean Size,” but the concert ended prematurely due to the altercation.

Representatives for Farrell, Navarro, Jane’s Addiction, and Live Nation have not yet responded to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.

Following the incident, Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, took to Instagram to address the situation. “Clearly, there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members,” she wrote. “What made the band so dynamic also led to the explosion. Perry got up in Dave’s face and body-checked him.”

Lau Farrell explained that Farrell had been frustrated with the stage sound levels, noting that by the time “Ocean Size” began, he was “screaming just to be heard.” She added that Farrell’s frustration had been building over several nights, exacerbated by his tinnitus and sore throat. When fans in the front row complained about the volume, Farrell’s patience snapped.

She also suggested that the fan videos didn’t capture the full picture of the altercation, hinting that Avery ultimately took control of the situation. “While Dave was trying to maintain his distance,” Lau Farrell wrote, “the real resolution came when Eric Avery stepped in.”
