Jamie Lee Curtis has teased a “monster hit” song performed by Lindsay Lohan in the highly anticipated sequel, Freakier Friday. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at Disney’s D23 convention, Curtis described the song as “the anthem song of the movie,” while Lohan hinted that the sequel will feature “more physical comedy” than the original.

Lohan, who previously sang in the 2003 Freaky Friday movie, may be on the verge of another pop-rock success, this time in the hands of her co-star, Jamie Lee Curtis. The duo, who play mother and daughter in the body-swapping films, shared exciting new details about the sequel, Freakier Friday, directed by Nisha Ganatra.

During the Anaheim, California event, Lohan, now 38, revealed that the plot of the new film is even “crazier” than before. Both she and Curtis, 65, took to the stage at the Honda Center arena to discuss the continuation of the beloved comedy. Lohan noted that the movie brings back some elements from the original, while Curtis highlighted a new song that she believes will be a “monster hit.” Curtis refrained from revealing the title of the track but promised that it would become an earworm for audiences.

Lohan added that the song holds significant emotional value for her, noting that she relates to it on a personal level beyond its context in the movie. This aligns with Lohan’s recent return to music, which includes her 2020 single “Back to Me” and her rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock” from the 2022 film Falling for Christmas. Her music career, which began with two successful solo albums in the early 2000s, seems to be experiencing a resurgence.

As for the film itself, Lohan and Curtis both agree that Freakier Friday lives up to its name, with even more “freakier” and funnier body-switching antics. “Anna is grown up now. She has a teenage daughter, so there’s a lot going on in that relationship,” Lohan explained, adding that the film pushes her comedic abilities further than before. “There’s more physical comedy in this. Much more than the original. I love that. Put up a glass door and let me fake walk into it. Where do I get to trip?” she joked.

Curtis emphasized the emotional depth of the film, describing it as a story about “love, loss, and life,” with an even stronger focus on mother-daughter relationships. “It’s more loving, more emotional,” Curtis said, echoing Lohan’s sentiments.

Earlier this year, Entertainment Weekly obtained audition materials for Freakier Friday, including unverified script pages that hinted at a plot involving Anna—now a mother to a 14-year-old daughter—and Tess switching bodies with two teenage girls.

In addition to Lohan and Curtis, original cast members Christina Vidal, Haley Hudson, Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao will reprise their roles. New faces joining the cast include Julia Butters from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Sophia Hammons from Under Wraps, Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Manny Jacinto from The Good Place and The Acolyte, who will play Anna’s husband.

Freakier Friday is set to hit theaters in 2025. For more details, watch the full interview with Lohan and Curtis on Entertainment Weekly.
