Harvey Dent Takes Aim at Joker in Folie à Deux Preview: ‘Arthur Fleck is a Monster!’
In a new preview for Joker: Folie à Deux, Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent takes center stage, condemning the chaos instigated by the Joker and his supporters.
Warner Bros. unveiled the first look at Harry Lawtey as Harvey Dent, who portrays the Gotham City Assistant District Attorney in the highly anticipated sequel. Lawtey, known for his role in Industry, steps into the shoes of a character first brought to life in DC Comics, and who evolves into the notorious villain Two-Face.
The teaser showcases Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, the character who becomes the Joker in the 2019 film, now imprisoned in Arkham Asylum. In a gripping press conference, Dent denounces the Joker’s reign of terror, which includes the shocking murder of talk-show host Murray Franklin (played by Robert De Niro) on live television.
“Arthur Fleck is a monster. He knew exactly what he was doing. His depraved acts of violence incited riots, and his followers are still willing to commit violence in his name,” Dent declares in the clip. The scene also features Lady Gaga’s Harleen “Lee” Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, smashing through a glass window to access a row of television sets.
The preview continues with a dramatic courtroom scene where Phoenix’s Joker violently assaults a judge, screaming, “Look around, look at all of these people! Who do you think they see?”
The clip concludes with Harley, who falls for Joker as a fellow Arkham patient, encouraging him to embrace his violent nature. “You can do anything you want,” she purrs. “You’re Joker.”
Dent’s appearance in the teaser represents the latest adaptation of the character, who has previously been portrayed in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman by Billy Dee Williams, in Joel Schumacher’s 1995 Batman Forever by Tommy Lee Jones, and in Christopher Nolan’s 2008 The Dark Knight by Aaron Eckhart.
Phoenix returns as the Joker in this musical sequel, following his Best Actor win at the 2020 Oscars. Gaga, who also has an Oscar to her name for her song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, joins the film as Harley Quinn.
Joker: Folie à Deux hits theaters on October 4. Watch the new preview featuring Harvey Dent above.
