France vs Moroccoto – The route to semi final match

After a stellar start to the group stage, France were beaten by Tunisia in their final match and finished at the top of Group D, despite goal difference. They will now play Poland in the last 16 tie, which they won 3-1. France’s third World Cup semi-final appearance came in 2016 where they reached the final losing on penalties to Portugal.

Morocco’s journeys on the world stage is so memorable. Here are some highlights:
-Morocco were unbeaten in their route to the 2018 World Cup, only losing one goal along the way–the fewest of any team in Qatar.
-In Group F, they topped Croatia and Spain respectively. They also won against Belgium 2-0, as well as drawing a game with Portugal 1-1 and winning 3-0 from a penalty shootout over Spain in their last 16 match to advance to a 5th consecutive semi-final and become the first African side to do so at a World Cup.

There has been a new addition to the team.

France had a full squad that they could select from so they were unlikely to change the starting XI.

Morocco are without two starters, with key defender Nayef Aguerd and striker Walid Cheddira injured. They’ll also be without suspended player Abdelhamid Sabiri, who was dismissed against Portugal in their last game. They will be bolstered by the return of Noussair Mazraoui and Abdelhamid El Kaoutari.

While the left-hand side has been a key area of success for France, they won’t have an easy time against Champions League winner Theo Hernandez. The AC Milan defender has one assist and averaged over three times the number of key passes (11) than his Morocco counterpart Achraf Hakimi.

Goalkeeper Hassan Hakimi was tasked with keeping the French attack at bay during Morocco’s second-round match against France. However, he was up to the task and emerged victorious with a clean sheet on his back.

Goal Prediction: 1-0 France
