First Look at CGI Stitch in Live-Action “Lilo & Stitch”
Get ready for the return of the lovable, chaotic blue alien as Stitch makes his live-action debut in Disney’s upcoming Lilo & Stitch remake.
Although the big Walt Disney Pictures panel at the D23 fan event on Friday didn’t focus much on Lilo & Stitch, it did unveil the first animation of the CGI-rendered Stitch from the highly anticipated live-action film, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, known for his work on Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.
During the event, which also featured previews of other Disney live-action projects like Snow White, Tron: Ares, and the Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday, audiences were surprised when a CGI Lilo jumped onto the screen at the Anaheim, California convention center. This moment offered the first glimpse of how the 2002 animated Disney classic’s furry alien will be brought to life in the live-action adaptation. Shortly after, the footage was shared with the public on social media.
Scheduled to hit theaters next summer, the film brings back Chris Sanders, who voiced Stitch in the original movie, to once again lend his voice to the CGI version of the character.
The original Lilo & Stitch, written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, tells the story of Lilo Pelekai, an orphaned Hawaiian girl raised by her older sister Nani after their parents’ death. When Lilo encounters a mysterious alien, she adopts him as her new “dog” and names him Stitch.
In the live-action remake, newcomer Maia Kealoha will portray Lilo, while Sydney Elizabeth Agudong will play Nani, and Kaipo Dudoit will take on the role of David Kawena, Nani’s love interest. Several original cast members are returning in new roles: Tia Carrere (the original voice of Nani) will play a new character named Mrs. Kekoa, and Amy Hill (the original Mrs. Hasagawa) will portray another new character named Tūtū.

The cast also includes Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis.
Lilo & Stitch is the latest in Disney’s ongoing trend of turning beloved animated classics into live-action films. At D23, attendees also got new looks at Snow White, featuring Rachel Zegler as the titular princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, as well as sneak peeks at Avatar: Fire and Ash, Agatha All Along, Daredevil: Born Again, Moana 2, and Zootopia 2.
While a specific release date for Lilo & Stitch hasn’t been announced, Disney has slated two untitled projects for release next year on May 23, 2025, and August 8, 2025. You can check out the first look at CGI Stitch above.
