FIFA World Cup Semi-Finals: Who will compete and time schedule
The results for the Quarter-Finals of the FIFA World Cup 2022 are in and France and Argentina have qualified for the Semi-Finals, while Croatia and Morocco will face off against each other in the next round to determine who will qualify for the final. These four teams will meet again on October 18th, hoping to win their way into the finals and become world champions.
France is getting ready for their first semifinal of the World Cup when they’ll face Algeria. France earned this position when Olivier Giroud’s header made the difference in a match against England. France were clearly fighting stronger than England, but Giroud scored what would be his 53rd goal for France when he rose above Harry Maguire and headed in during the 78th minute of play.
As Portugal was preparing to take a penalty, they were thrown a late lifeline when Theo Hernandez needlessly shoved over Mason Mount and the referee gave a spot-kick following a VAR review. This delay in time caused Kane to miss his kick, spurring England into extra time and avoiding penalty kicks.
Earlier on Saturday, Morocco bested Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal with a 1-0 victory. Youssef En-Nesyri scored the goal in the first half to make history for Morocco, and went further than any African nation has gone in World Cup history.
Morocco was ranked 22nd in the world before they started the tournament. Now, they’ve won 3 games to surpass 3 other African sides — Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana — who made it all the way to the quarter-finals.
