Dave Coulier Becomes a Grandpa: ‘We’re So Excited’

Dave Coulier’s family just grew by one! The Full House star and comedian proudly shared the news that he is officially a grandfather for the first time after his son Luc and his wife Alex welcomed their baby boy on March 27.

“We’re so excited,” Coulier said in a recent interview with Parade. “My son and his wife live in California, so we’ll be making multiple trips to see that little boy.”

At 65, Coulier also reflected on how his new role as a grandfather has brought positivity into his life, especially during his ongoing battle with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he was diagnosed with last November.

“I don’t know how else to view this other than with a positive attitude, especially because I’m in a position where I can inspire others,” Coulier explained. “A negative attitude doesn’t inspire anybody. Positivity, though, can take you a long way.”

The actor, best known for playing Uncle Joey on Full House and Fuller House, had previously shared that he discovered his cancer diagnosis after an upper respiratory infection caused his lymph nodes to swell to the size of golf balls. This led to further tests, which ultimately revealed the diagnosis.

“Three days later, my doctors called me back and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and it’s called B-cell and it’s very aggressive,'” Coulier said. “I went from, ‘I got a little bit of a head cold’ to ‘I have cancer,’ and it was pretty overwhelming. This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey.”

Throughout his health struggles, Coulier has received support from his Full House family. John Stamos even wore a bald cap in solidarity, while Candace Cameron Bure frequently checks in on him.

“That’s the most really anyone can do. And you tell people how much you love them, that’s what friends are for,” Bure shared with PEOPLE in February. “You’re just there for people, whether it’s to be a listening ear or give words of comfort and encouragement.”
