CHAD KELLY SAYS HE HIT ROCK BOTTOM AFTER VON MILLER’S HALLOWEEN PARTY DURING TUMULTUOUS NFL CAREER
Chad Kelly is currently showcasing his skills in Canada, but his ultimate goal is to play professional football in the United States, specifically in the National Football League (NFL). The 29-year-old quarterback, who happens to be the nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, had previous chances to make a mark in the NFL. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos as the last overall pick in 2017 and spent two seasons with the team before bouncing between the active and practice squads of the Indianapolis Colts for two more seasons. Unfortunately, Kelly’s opportunities in the NFL did not pan out as expected.
Although Kelly has not been in the NFL since 2020, he firmly believes he deserves another shot based on his performance on the field. However, off-field issues and incidents forced him to explore other options, leading him to consider playing in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Kelly’s journey has been tumultuous. He faced challenges during his college career when he was dismissed from Clemson’s football team due to an altercation with coaches during a spring game. He continued his football journey at East Mississippi Community College and later transferred to Ole Miss, where he faced further off-field troubles, including an arrest after an alleged nightclub brawl and making gun threats.
Despite these incidents, Kelly became one of the best quarterbacks in Ole Miss history, thanks to the support of coach Hugh Freeze. However, his troubles continued during his senior year when he jumped a fence and got involved in an on-field skirmish at his brother’s high school game.
In the NFL, Kelly’s career had its highs and lows. He won the backup role for the Broncos ahead of Paxton Lynch in his rookie year but faced major off-field issues later. Following an arrest for criminal trespassing, the Broncos released him. Kelly pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and served a two-game suspension when he joined the Colts.
Reflecting on his journey, Kelly acknowledges the mistakes he made and believes he has grown as a person. He is eager for a fresh opportunity and redemption in the NFL. Kelly recently spoke about his experiences and the lessons learned, expressing his hope that no one else has to go through the challenges he faced.

After a two-year hiatus, Kelly returned to football with the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL last season and won a Grey Cup as a relief player. Now, in his second year with Toronto, he is shining as the starting quarterback and has the chance to capitalize on his unique incentive-based contract.
