My Neighbor Totoro Ugly Christmas Sweater
The classic anime film, My Neighbor Totoro, is a charming tale of two young siblings who spend their summer vacation in the forest near their home. While there, they befriend a large creature known as a “Totoro” that leaves them curious and excited about Christmas.
This year, one fan decided to put together an ugly Christmas sweater inspired by the film. The sweater features colorful fonts spelling out “TO TROTORO WE ARE GRATEFUL” over a green and brown striped shirt. After posting it on social media, the sweater quickly went viral with people praising its creativity and humor.
While some may find this sweater offensive or inappropriate, others see it as an amusing take on the traditional holiday apparel. Either way, it’s sure to get people talking this holiday season!
The History of the Ugly Christmas Sweater
Christmas sweaters have a long and varied history, going all the way back to ancient pagan celebrations. In modern times, ugly Christmas sweaters are popularized as part of the “Ugly Christmas Sweater Party”. The impetus for this trend likely comes from watching the holiday movie, “A Christmas Story”, in which Ralphie must battle ridicule from his classmates at school for wearing an ugly Christmas sweater.
However, ugly Christmas sweaters did not originate with the movie. In fact, they date back much earlier than that. A popular example is the “Dracula Sweater”, which was worn in 1922 by a woman named Mina Harker during a play performance of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. The popularity of this particular sweater probably has more to do with its practicality (it kept her warm during the cold performance) than its appearance.
Of course, there have been plenty of ugly Christmas sweaters over the years that are far more aesthetically pleasing than the Dracula Sweater. One such example is the “Snowman Sweater”, which was famously worn by John Lennon in 1971 while performing on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. This particular sweater is easily recognizable due to its oversized head and arms made out of snowflakes.
Another iconic ugly Christmas sweater is the “ReindeerSweater” featured on NBC’s “The Great
How to Make an Ugly Christmas Sweater
If you’re planning on heading to your family’s holiday get-together in a festive outfit, don’t forget the ugly Christmas sweater. This wearable is perfect for those who don’t want to show too much skin and don’t want to spend tons of money on a new dress or outfit.
To make an ugly Christmas sweater, all you need are some old clothes that you no longer want or need and a sewers kit. You can also find these items at most craft stores.
First, cut the clothes so they will fit around your body like a jacket and pants. Make sure the sleeves and length of the pants are long enough so that they cover your feet when you are sitting down.
Next, take the sewers kit and sewn two pieces of fabric together to form a rectangle shape. Next, take one side of the rectangle and sew it to the other side of the rectangle using a zigzag stitch, making sure not to leave any spaces between the lines of stitching. Do this same thing to both sides of the rectangle. Now your ugly Christmas sweater is complete!
