“Operating from the picturesque Verona, Mr. Martini is a standout in Italy’s bike-modding scene. Led by Nicola Martini, his innovative creations have been a favorite among custom motorcycle aficionados for years, including us at autoevolution. We’ve showcased his work previously, and revisiting it remains a joy.

It’s time we reacquaint ourselves with one of his masterpieces – the Quartadose. Built in 2022, Nicola and his team aimed to infuse it with a cafe racer vibe, selecting the iconic Gixxer platform from Suzuki as the foundation.

To be exact, the team chose the GSX-R1100 from 1991, equipped with a powerful 16-valve, 1,127cc inline-four engine boasting up to 143 hp. With its impressive five-speed transmission, this machine can accelerate to a top speed of 167 mph.

By the early nineties, Suzuki’s premier sports bike had seen various enhancements since its 1986 launch. Given this, the ’91 GSX-R1100 was an ideal pick for Mr. Martini’s customization, especially with its impressive engine prowess. Though it wasn’t in its original condition when it reached Verona.

Nicola hinted that the bike had previous modifications, describing its initial appearance as less than appealing. But post-transformation, it’s a head-turner. The renovation began with stripping down the bike, discarding the original subframe and most of the body parts.

However, on the client’s insistence, the original suspension, brakes, and wheels remained intact. The team’s primary focus was aesthetics. They crafted a new tubular steel subframe, which they bolted to the main frame. A custom-made cafe-style tail, housing much of the bike’s electrical components, sits on this subframe. For the seat, Nicola sought the expertise of Tommi Casaro, resulting in a stylish solo saddle in black leather.

Modern LED lights and a compact license plate holder round off the back. They retained the original Gixxer fuel tank, deeming it fit for the cafe racer look. However, the front received a transformation, now boasting a Ducati SuperSport-inspired fairing, adjusted for size.

Custom aluminum brackets hold this new fairing, and the bike’s twin headlights were replaced by a single vintage-style lamp. A neat touch you’ll find in many of Martini’s creations. The cockpit remains largely original but refreshed with new clip-ons from Tommaselli. While most of the engine remains untouched, the Quartadose sports premium K&N air filters and a custom exhaust system ending in a SuperTrapp muffler.

With the framework complete, the focus shifted to aesthetics. Nicola entrusted +39Kustom, located near Lake Garda, for a stunning paint job. They delivered, with a blend of gloss-black and grey-blue, accentuated by white stripes and distinct Quartadose and Suzuki branding. Concurrently, Martini added a refined brushed effect to the frame and swingarm.”
