9-1-1 Expands with New Spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville
ABC is expanding the 9-1-1 universe, bringing a fresh twist to the Ryan Murphy Television-produced franchise with the announcement of a new spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville.
While the franchise previously teased a possible Hawaiian setting, the new series will instead take place in the heart of Tennessee, marking a new chapter for the 9-1-1 brand. The flagship series, which made a successful move from Fox to ABC in 2024, will return for the second half of season 8 on March 6.
For a time, 9-1-1 shared a night with its Texas-based spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star, but the latter came to an end after season 5 earlier this month. With Lone Star wrapping up, 9-1-1: Nashville will now take center stage on ABC.
The new show will be overseen by 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear and Lone Star co-showrunner Rashad Raisani, who will serve as executive producers and writers. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Angela Bassett, who stars as police sergeant Athena Grant in 9-1-1, will also serve as executive producers.
Rumors of a spinoff began circulating in October, with initial speculation pointing to Hawaii. However, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that 9-1-1: Nashville will be the new addition to the 9-1-1 family.
While the cast has not yet been revealed, fans of the franchise can look forward to the possibility of more crossovers, as happened during the time when both 9-1-1 and Lone Star aired on Fox. However, before Nashville debuts, 9-1-1 will first cross over with another ABC series, Doctor Odyssey, starring Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman. In the upcoming crossover episode, titled “Casino Week,” Athena Grant (Bassett) teams up with Max to investigate suspicious activity aboard a cruise ship, leading to high-stakes drama in the casino.
With 9-1-1 expanding into new territories, fans are in for an exciting ride as the series continues to grow.
