Wisconsin man charged with killing 2 in drunken Floodwood crash
A tragic accident near Floodwood resulted in the pickup truck being divided into two with beer cans strewn around the crash site.
A 23-year-old Wisconsin resident, Darren Andrew Tenney, allegedly under the influence and driving recklessly, crashed into a tree, leading to the truck splitting and the unfortunate demise of two passengers earlier this month.
On Wednesday, Tenney faced arraignment in the State District Court, charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide for the deaths of Joseph David Trowbridge and Madison Joy Warren, both 23 and from Twin Cities.
After an arrest warrant was issued, Tenney, who sustained injuries from the crash, handed himself over to the authorities on Tuesday.
According to reports, around 2:45 a.m., an automated 911 call from an iPhone led the authorities to discover Tenney’s severely damaged 2004 Chevrolet Silverado off County Road 8. Trowbridge was found deceased in a nearby tree, having been thrown through the windshield, while Warren, although still buckled in the back seat, had also tragically passed away due to the impact.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered Tenney, seemingly unconscious and trapped in the vehicle. The truck’s cab had been entirely detached from its frame. As Tenney regained consciousness, he conversed with the deputies, attempting to escape through the windshield’s opening. Reports suggest that his speech was unclear, and he gave inconsistent accounts of the number of people in the truck.
Witnesses at the scene reported a strong alcoholic scent from Tenney. Authorities found several Busch Light cans inside the truck and around the crash site.
