Manny Jacinto Cast as Lindsay Lohan’s Husband in Freaky Friday Sequel Freakier Friday
Lindsay Lohan is set to return in the highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, and this time, her character’s husband will be played by The Good Place and The Acolyte star Manny Jacinto.
While Disney had previously announced Jacinto’s involvement in the sequel without revealing his role, Lohan and her on-screen mother, Jamie Lee Curtis, have now confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Jacinto will portray the husband of Lohan’s character, Anna. In the original Freaky Friday film, Anna famously swapped bodies with her mother, Tess, thanks to a mysterious curse.
“Manny plays Lindsay’s husband, but that’s all we can say for now,” Curtis told EW, noting that they are still in the midst of filming.
“Manny is lovely, so funny,” Lohan added, expressing her delight at having Jacinto as her new on-screen love interest.
Fans of the 2003 classic will also be excited to hear that Chad Michael Murray is returning to reprise his role as Jake, Anna’s former love interest. Last month, Disney teased Murray’s return by sharing an image of him in character, complete with a new motorcycle. “Chad is in it. And boy, oh boy, is Chad in it,” Curtis teased about his involvement in Freakier Friday.
Although Curtis referred to Jacinto as Anna’s husband, the official synopsis for the upcoming film, directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Jordan Weiss, suggests a bit more complexity. It hints at Anna being a “longtime single mom” who is about to marry British restaurateur Eric Davis, to the dismay of her “tomboy” daughter, Harper, as they navigate the challenges of merging two families.
In addition to Lohan, Curtis, and Murray, several other stars from the original movie are set to return, including Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
Directed by Mark Waters, the original Freaky Friday film became a global box office hit for Disney, grossing over $160 million worldwide on a modest budget. It has remained popular over the years, thanks to frequent airings on the Disney Channel.
Freakier Friday is scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
