‘I’m a fan of Kenan’: Deion Sanders laughs about ‘SNL’ portrayal

The iconic University of Colorado Buffaloes coach, Deion Sanders, recently found himself the subject of a comedic “Saturday Night Live” skit, and he thoroughly enjoyed the playful ribbing.

Drawing inspiration from Sanders’ distinctive style and memorable press conference remarks, Kenan Thompson delivered an impression of the legendary NFL coach. He chatted animatedly about the team, race, and Colorado’s demographics, much to the amusement of SNL’s Colin Jost.

Reacting to the sketch during his weekly press briefing, Sanders couldn’t hide his amusement, praising Thompson, saying, “I truly admire Kenan. His contribution to comedy over so many years is commendable.”

In the episode aired on October 15th, Thompson, donning full CU Buffs attire reminiscent of Sanders’ usual ensemble, jovially remarked about the Buffs’ current season performance and how destiny brought him to Colorado. Highlighting Sanders’ endless optimism for the Buffaloes, Thompson jestingly commented on their strengths and areas of growth, exclaiming, “We’ve got everything in our team! Genius coaching, explosive offense, and a defense that’s… well, they’re putting in the effort.”

Reminiscing about his own time as an “SNL” host back in February 1995, Sanders acknowledged Thompson’s humorous impression but shared that his favorite parody was by Lou Young. “Lou Young truly nails it when imitating me,” Sanders chuckled, “It’s uncanny how good he is.”

The spotlight remains on the Buffaloes as they gear up to face off against the UCLA Bruins this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Pasadena.
