Stade Brestois Ligue is one of the oldest football clubs in France and they currently play in Ligue 1. The club was founded on October 10, 1892 and played their first official game on August 12, 1893. Brest finished third in Division 2 in 1954 which qualified them for the newly created Division 1.
They finished as runners-up in their first season in the top flight and were promoted to the Premier League.Brest reached the final of the French Cup for the first time in 1968 where they lost to Paris Saint Germain.
The club also reached the semi-finals of the Coupe de France in 1990 and 1998. The side has also enjoyed so
me success in European competition, reaching the quarter-finals of UEFA Champions League in 2010 and 2013. In total, Brest have played 536 games in European competition, winning 38 matches and losing 45.
In June 2017 it was announced that Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev had bought a 75% stake in Stade Brestois Ligue.
