The history of the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVII Champions Logo Varsity Jackets

In 1968, the Kansas City Chiefs became the first expansion team in NFL history to make it to the championship game. The team made it all the way to Super Bowl III, but lost to the Dallas Cowboys. In 1969, they finally won their first championship, beating the Buffalo Bills. In 1971, they again reached the Super Bowl but this time were defeated by the Miami Dolphins. After another losing season in 1972, General Manager Lamar Hunt decided that it was time for a change at head coach and hired Hank Stram. Stram led the Chiefs to their third championship in 1974, beating the Vikings. They repeated as champions in 1975, beating the Vikings again. In 1976, Stram was replaced with Jimmy Johnson and Kansas City made it all the way to Super Bowl IV but lost to 1976 champion Oakland Raiders. The next year Johnson took over as head coach of the Cowboys and Kansas City had their fifth consecutive loss in the Super Bowl, this time to fellow expansion franchise Tampa Bay Buccaneers.[1]

In spite of these failures on championship level, one thing is for sure; The Chiefs have a loyal fan base that will always support them no matter what happens on field. This fan base can definitely be credited with helping turn around KC’s fortunes in recent years; starting with winning back-to-back AFC West titles under Todd Haley from 2009-10,[2] followed by an appearance in last year’s playoffs where they lost to Peyton Manning and Denver Broncos in double overtime
